Flu cases continue upward trend in AHS Central Zone

The number of influenza cases, hospitalizations, ICU admissions, and flu-related deaths continue to rise in the AHS Central Zone.

According to Alberta Health Services, there are 655 cases of the flu in the AHS Central Zone as of December 3, 2022. That’s up by 138 cases over the past week.

Flu-related hospitalizations in the Central Zone are currently at 104, up 38 from the previous week, while ICU admissions currently sit at 11, up four from a week ago.

Deaths in the AHS Central Zone attributed to the flu this season are now at four, up from two last week.

Elsewhere throughout the province, the Calgary Zone has 2,233 cases of influenza with 454 hospitalizations, 44 ICU admissions and eight deaths.

The Edmonton Zone has 1,990 cases of influenza, 366 hospitalizations, 35 ICU admissions, and eight flu-related deaths.

The North Zone currently has 1,094 cases of influenza, 115 hospitalizations, 13 ICU admissions, and two deaths.

The South Zone has 309 cases of influenza as of December 3, with 81 hospitalizations, nine ICU admissions, and two flu-related deaths.
