Innisfail RCMP recover two stolen vehicles, three suspects arrested

Three individuals from Regina, SK are facing multiple charges after Innisfail RCMP recovered a pair of stolen vehicles last week.

On Oct. 19, 2022, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Innisfail RCMP responded to numerous reports of two vehicles driving erratically in Red Deer County. Innisfail RCMP located the suspect vehicles, a white Toyota SUV and a black Ford sedan on Hwy 2A approaching Innisfail.

Mounties say the suspect vehicles, which appeared to be traveling in tandem, fled at a high rate of speed and passing motorists on the shoulder while trying to evade the police. One of the vehicles became inoperable due to a blown tire and was located abandoned on Hwy 2 just south of Innisfail.

Police say their investigation revealed that the Toyota SUV had been stolen out of Cochrane, AB earlier that morning. It was believed the occupants of the Toyota SUV had boarded the black Ford sedan and continued south.

A short time later, Olds RCMP received a report of suspicious activity near the Town of Bowden where a black sedan had been abandoned after hitting a deer. Investigation revealed that the black Ford sedan had been stolen hours early from a local business outside of Innisfail and was the same vehicle which had fled from the Innisfail RCMP. Olds RCMP then received reports of suspicious people in Bowden.

With assistance from Olds RCMP, Didsbury RCMP and RCMP Police Dog Service (PDS), three suspects where located in the town of Bowden. Innisfail RCMP say they were able to link the suspicious persons to the stolen vehicles.

The suspects charged are 34, 25, and 24 years of age. All three have been jointly charged with:

  • Possession of stolen property
  • Theft of motor vehicle
  • Flight from police.

Mounties say one suspect was additionally charged with failing to comply with a release order. A bail hearing was conducted and he is currently remanded in custody with a court date set for Nov. 6, 2022, at Red Deer provincial court.

A second suspect was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance, while a third suspect was additionally charged with obstruction of a police officer.

The second and third suspects were taken before a justice of the peace and released on an undertaking to appear on Dec. 6, 2022, at Red Deer provincial court.
