GAME(S) OF THE WEEK:

Tier I

#5 Notre Dame Pride vs. #6 St. Francis Browns

7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 6, McMahon Stadium (Calgary)

Actually, there are a lot of interesting games this week. The Holy Trinity Academy vs. Cochrane game is very intriguing (especially with Cochrane declaring Tier I this week!). So are Chinook vs. Cardston, W.R. Myers vs. Willow Creek, and Rimbey vs. Buck Mountain among others.

However, there is nothing like (to borrow a phrase from the late great sportscaster Keith Jackson) the “Grandaddy of them All” featuring the much-anticipated clash between the St. Francis Browns and the Notre Dame Pride. As far as we can tell, it is the only high school game in Canada that necessitates a move from its regular facility to a major CFL stadium to accommodate the crowd size. The two Catholic high schools on Calgary’s north side have dominated the Division I league for the past decade and show no signs of slowing down. The Griffins of Ernest Manning are a new wrinkle in the Div. I picture in Calgary and are undefeated to date, but won’t play either of these teams until the weeks following the McMahon Classic. Lots of seats in McMahon but be prepared to pick a side when you come in as you will be seated according to your affiliation. Always a treat when these two play.
