Broncos student athletes earn CCAA National Scholar status
The Olds College Broncos have announced that 27 Broncos student-athletes were recently recognized for their efforts by receiving the CCAA’s National Scholar Award for the 2021-2022 season.
Officials say the recognition rewards student-athletes who achieved honours standing in academics for the season while competing in intercollegiate athletics.
Among the 2021-22 class, Haylee-Jo Heggie from Women’s Basketball is now a five-time CCAA National Scholar, with two coming from her time at Lethbridge College prior to transferring to the Broncos ahead of the 2019-20 season. On account of the season lost to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Raymond, AB, native now has a shot at a rare sixth National Scholar Award as she completes her athletic eligibility this season.
Meanwhile, a number of Broncos recipients can now count themselves as multi-time CCAA National Scholars. They include Women’s Soccer players Felicia Rodney (three times, now transferred to Keyano College) and MJ Vergara (twice), Women’s Volleyball player Tabitha Martin (three times), Men’s Volleyball players Braden Bates and Jesse Stoddart (twice each), Women’s Basketball player Amelia Furst (twice), Men’s Basketball player Erik Wopnford (twice), and Priyanna Ramdhani from Badminton (three times).
