Equipment failure cause of widespread power outage in Red Deer
Equipment failure has been pegged as the cause of a brief, but wide-spread power outage in Red Deer Monday.
Jim Jorgensen, Manager of Utilities, City of Red Deer, says crews were notified of the outage at 3:26 p.m. on Aug. 15.
“We had crews working on some switching on the system, normal operations, and we received notice of a fault near Parkland Mall area, so abutting 67 Street, that caused a couple of breakers around the city to trip open,” he explains. “It took out service to probably around 3,000 customers at its peak.”
Jorgensen says the outage impacted customers throughout many parts of the city.
