Building permits drastically down from June to June, but up this year

Values of building permits in Red Deer last month dropped, the municipality says.

In June, there were 74 approved permits worth a combined $10.9 million.

In June 2021, there were 166 permits worth $27 million.

“We are pleased to see our 2022 permit numbers and values are in alignment with historical averages, despite challenges with labour, supply chain issues and cost of materials. Our 2022 permit values from January to June are consistent with those in 2020, and higher than 2021,” said Darin Sceviour, Inspections & Building Supervisor. “Comparing June permits, 2022 numbers are consistent with 2020, whereas in 2021, we saw an increase in permits due to a number of individual projects moving forward in the community.”
