Saving Grace Animal Society announces first ever golf tournament

Saving Grace Animal Society (SGAS) will be hosting their first ever fundraising golf tournament this summer.

The organization is putting out the call to golfers, sponsors and animal enthusiasts to join them on Friday, August 26 at the Wolf Creek Golf Resort near Ponoka.

“2022 has been such an incredible year of highs and lows, and definitely one of our most challenging yet,” said Amanda McClughan, Co-Executive Director of SGAS. “While we were able to break ground on our new veterinary facility and have been blessed with many donors and volunteers, this year’s animal intakes, rescues and medical bills have been just as staggering.”

In looking for new ways to connect with supporters, the SGAS team says they decided to organize a golf tournament to challenge participants “to put the ‘fun’ back in ‘fundraising’”.

“Golf can be a tricky sport for many players,” said McClughan, acknowledging the wide variety of skill levels that may intimidate amateur golfers, “but that’s not the point. Our focus is on fun. Great scores, poor scores, as long as memories are made and fun is had, we’ll consider it a successful tournament.”

They say prizes are to be planned for participation, completion of activities and draws so that anyone of any skill level has an opportunity to be a winner.

“Though, the real winners are the animals we are able to help” said McClughan, noting an increase in dog and cat intakes during the summer months.

In addition to 18 holes of golf, the tournament will also feature visits from select SGAS animals, a raffle table, 50/50 tickets and will be topped off with a casual dinner and a comedy show.

“We’ve already registered our first few teams, and are looking to fill our tournament with a full 72 golfers,” said McClughan.

Registration is $800 for a team of four, and the organization is encouraging participants to have as much fun as they possibly can when it comes to team spirit.

“Neon colors, catchy team names, animal print and outrageous make-up, we’re prepared for nearly anything,” said McClughan.

Corporate entries and sponsorship opportunities are available. Anyone wishing to donate their time as a volunteer or a raffle prize or swag bag as a contribution can contact the Saving Grace Animal Society to find out how they can be involved.

“From rescue to rehabilitation to rehome, it takes an entire team of people to care for our animals. Not just our organization, but the countless volunteers, partners, foster and adoption families,” said McClughan, “and we’re grateful for every dollar, every hour, every intention that we receive.”
