Crash kills one near Rocky Mountain House on Friday

Jul 9, 2022 | 4:26 PM

Rimbey RCMP say one person has died following a single vehicle collision on Friday.

It was just after 5:30 p.m. on July 8, police say, when RCMP were alerted to the crash on Hwy 22 just south of Township Road 422A, and about 28 km north of Rocky Mountain House.

A 27-year-old woman from Edmonton was deceased on scene, while a second occupant, a 33-year-old man from Lac La Biche. was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A collision analyst has determined that the vehicle was travelling southbound on Hwy 22 when it crossed the northbound lane, entered the ditch and travelled down a steep embankment where it rolled.

“Several motorists stopped to provide assistance. The RCMP recognizes that incidents like this can be very traumatic for family and friends of those involved, and for the witnesses,” RCMP say in a release.

“Rimbey Victim Services is a not-for-profit organization that provides 24 hour crisis response, support, and referral services to victims of crime and tragedy. Rocky Mountain House RCMP, Rocky Mountain House Fire, and EMS all assisted Rimbey RCMP on the call.
