Sylvan Lake RCMP respond often over recent long weekend

Jul 6, 2022 | 2:42 PM

Sylvan Lake RCMP responded to 92 calls for service over the recent long weekend.

The increase in calls from June 30 to July 3, the detachment says, is largely thanks to an increase in the local population, with many visiting from out of town.

The 92 calls include:

· Assaults

· Animal calls

· Breach of peace (x9)

· Break and enter

· Causing a disturbance (x8)

· Municipal by-law offenses (x7)

· Impaired driving

· Missing persons

· Suspicious persons (x9)

“As summer activities continue in Sylvan Lake this year, RCMP would like to remind vacation goers that due to traffic congestion they can expect delays on area roadways,” Sylvan Lake RCMP say in a release. “Furthermore, impaired driving remains a leading cause of criminal death in Canada. RCMP will be actively conducting enforcement in order to ensure everyone’s safety.”

There were also 17 provincial traffic/liquor violations, and 13 people were arrested for various other matters.

RCMP were also out in Sylvan volunteering for community events, doing foot patrols on the beach, and doing boat patrols conducting compliance checks and enforcement on the lake.
