Alberta’s Auditor General recognizes implemented recommendations

Auditor General Doug Wylie has issued a report recognizing the successful implementation of three prior recommendations.

The report states that Alberta Health Services (AHS) and Travel Alberta have implemented three recommendations issued by the Auditor General of Alberta.

“My office has completed a review of these outstanding recommendations and I am pleased to report that management has successfully implemented these recommendations,” said Wylie. “The work of my office is not fully realized until our recommendations are acted upon, and I recognize both AHS and Travel Alberta for their efforts.”

The Auditor General has completed his assessment of implementation work resulting from a 2013 audit on whether AHS had effective controls to ensure payment of expense claims, purchasing card transactions, and other travel expenses all complied with AHS policies.

The report states that as of January 2022, the Auditor General has found the following recommendation to have been implemented:

• Controls over expenses

Travel Alberta

The Auditor General completed his assessment of implementation work resulting from a 2019 audit of Travel Alberta’s processes for managing the risks of cloud computing.

The report states that as of December 2021, the Auditor General has found that the two recommendations have been implemented:

• Develop a risk management process to manage the risks of using cloud computing
• Develop contract management processes for contracts with its cloud service providers

The report was tabled in the Alberta Legislature on May 25, 2022.

Appointed under Alberta’s Auditor General Act, the Auditor General is the legislated auditor of every provincial ministry, department, and most provincial agencies, boards, commissions, and regulated funds. The audits, conducted by the Office of the Auditor General, report on how government is managing its responsibilities and the province’s resources such as public money.
