Help announced for Alberta producers through 2021 AgriRecovery funding
Officials with the provincial government acknowledge the 2021 growing season was difficult for Alberta producers, but say the targeted AgriRecovery initiative was timely and successful.
In response to severe drought conditions last growing season, the governments of Canada and Alberta worked together to develop and deploy an AgriRecovery initiative, which is said to have helped thousands of livestock producers cover their extraordinary costs. The responses were administered through Agriculture Financial Services Corporation (AFSC).
“Alberta producers have once again shown their strength and resiliency in overcoming the challenges of the past year. The Government of Canada is making sure to support them in the face of uncertainty so they remain well-positioned for success,” said Marie-Claude Bibeau, federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, in a press release Wednesday.
“Last year was tough for many Alberta farmers and ranchers, but they persevered and met the challenges that came at them. I’m cautiously optimistic that 2022 will be a positive year for our Ag sector,” added Nate Horner, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Economic Development. “Commodity prices are strong and Alberta producers have always been at the forefront of innovative farming practices and sustainability. We’re looking to our agri-food sector to help lead Alberta’s economic recovery.”
