LAST WEEK

The Rebels went 1-1 during a pair of games this past weekend.

Fri. April 8Ben King did it yet again as he scored 2:56 into overtime to give the Rebels a 5-4 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes at the Peavey Mart Centrium. It was King’s league leading 49th goal of the season and WHL-best 15th game winning tally, leaving him just one shy of tying the WHL single season record set by Brian Propp (Brandon, 1978-79). Talon Brigley, Kalan Lind, Jayden Grubbe and Christoffer Sedoff also scored for the Rebels. Chase Coward made 29 saves for the win.

Sat. April 9 Playing on short rest after Friday’s night win at home, the Rebels dropped an eventful 6-4 decision to the Edmonton Oil Kings at Rogers Place. The highlight of the game for Red Deer was King scoring his 50th goal of the season on a second period powerplay. He becomes the fifth player in team history to reach the golden milestone and first since Kyle Wanvig in 2000-01. King also surpassed 100 points on the season.

RECORD

The Rebels are 44-18-2-2 this season. They are in second place in the WHL Central Division and third overall in the Eastern Conference. It’s the seventh time in the team’s 30-year history that the Rebels have reached the 40-win mark in a season.

The Rebels have reached the 40-win plateau for the seventh time in team history and first time since 2015-16

The Rebels are 7-2-0-1 in their last 10 games and 3-1-0-0 so far in the month of April. The Rebels have earned points in 11-straight home games at the Peavey Mart Centrium (10-0-0-1).

NOTABLES

Arshdeep Bains leads all WHL players with 106 points on the season (40 goals, 66 assists). Logan Stankoven of the Kamloops Blazers is next with 102, followed by King with 101 (50G, 51A). Both the Rebels and Blazers have two games remaining. The last Rebels player to win the WHL scoring title was Justin Mapletoft in 2000-01 (120 points).

Red Deer has yet to lose three-straight games this season and has lost back-to-back games just four times. Only twice this season has the team suffered two-straight regulation losses.

Christoffer Sedoff has 59 points, good for eighth among WHL defencemen, and is second overall in the WHL with 31 power play helpers. The Helsinki, Finland native has a goal and seven assists in his last four games.

Chase Coward is 6-0-0-1 in his last six starts with a 2.09 GAA, .922 Save % and one shutout during that time.
