Town of Blackfalds announces new mobile app

The Town of Blackfalds announced a new mobile application that is expected to improve communication between the town, the community, and its visitors.

The app came about during budget deliberations in town council, where they explored ways for the public and visitors to find information about the community more easily.

The 2026 budget survey also unveiled that residents found it difficult to find information on upcoming events, news, and programming.

“Over the past few years, I’ve heard from residents who were disappointed to learn about community events only after they had already happened. We know that not everyone uses social media, and some residents have found the Town website challenging to navigate,” said Blackfalds Mayor Laura Svab. “The Blackfalds App will make it easier for residents to stay connected and access information whenever they need it. From community events to parks and trails to service requests and updates from Mayor and Council, the app puts Town information right at your fingertips. I encourage everyone to download the app and take some time to explore its features.”

The Blackfalds App they town says, is user-friendly but also allows users to customize preferences for push notifications. It can be found in both the Apple and Android app stores.

No account is needed, and the app allows for real-time emergency alerts, local news, events, community project information, waste and recycling schedules, career opportunities, and the ability to report issues around town.

“We’re always looking for ways to better serve our community, and accessibility is a very important part of that. Launching the mobile app gives our residents a direct, user-friendly connection to local services, and we hope that this will bridge the information gap that residents are experiencing,” shared Chief Administrative Officer Kim Isaak. “Administration worked diligently in finding the app developer that worked the best for us and was within our budget. I invite everyone to download the app, test it out, and reach out to us with any feedback.”

Council approved the mobile app budget in late 2025, with a pricing of a $9,500 one-time set-up fee, and then a $3,025 annual subscription.
