Renewal deadline for commercial carriers extended
Alberta’s government has announced an extension to the deadline for commercial carriers to renew Safety Fitness Certificates (SFC) that are required to operate in Alberta.
Provincial officials say commercial carriers have until June 28, 2022 to renew their SFCs. This deadline applies to carriers that obtained their certificate before March 1, 2019.
Officials say regular renewal of SFCs every three years ensures commercial carriers are accurately reporting time spent on the roads, sharing insurance information, and are demonstrating that they meet required safety standards.
“The first priority in Alberta Transportation is safety on our roads, and that’s why the SFC policy was created,” said Rajan Sawhney, Minister of Transportation, on Wednesday. “ Transportation sectors have faced unprecedented challenges from the COVID pandemic to continuous strains on our supply chain. We are working with all commercial carriers to ensure their certificates are completed so they can stay in business.”
