Warm weather closes outdoor ice skating in Ponoka
With spring-like temperatures, melting snow and ice throughout the community, the Town of Ponoka announced on Wednesday that all outdoor ice skating surfaces are now closed for the season.
That includes the ice skating trail at Lions Centennial Park, the Downtown Skating Plaza (5110-48 Avenue) and the Outdoor Skating Rink at the Ponoka Arena Complex.
Public skating and shinny hockey on the indoor ice surfaces at the Ponoka Arena Complex will continue until Mar. 17, after which the two activities at the Arena will end for the season.
“Thank you to everyone who has enjoyed a successful ice skating season on all of Ponoka’s outdoor and indoor ice surfaces. We look forward to the return of the ice surfaces next winter and another fun season of ice skating and shinny hockey in Ponoka,” said the town in a release.
