Rebels’ star Arshdeep Bains talks ‘dream come true’ signing with hometown Canucks
At the time of signing his first pro contract with the Vancouver Canucks this week, Arshdeep Bains had 82 points in 55 games for the Red Deer Rebels this season.
That was good enough to sit alone atop the points race in the Western Hockey League, making Bains, a native of Surrey, B.C., the first ever player of South Asian descent to lead the WHL in points at any juncture of a season.
Bains followed up putting pen to paper by going out and adding three more points Friday night against Medicine Hat in what has been a fantastic season for his team, thanks in large part to him and line-mate Ben King. After their latest tilt, the pair share the league-lead in points with 85 over 56 games.
