Title: Spotlight on Marlene Kallstrom-Barritt: Ascending
Artist(s): Carol Lynn Gilchrist, ASA and Guest Marlene Kallstrom-Barritt
Riverlands Studio and Gallery, 5123 48 Street
Media: Watercolour and Ink
Dates of Exhibition: February 1 – 25, 2022
Opening Reception: February 4 from 5:30 – 8:00 pm
DESCRIPTION – Marlene describes the series called “Ascending”, as “having a foundation in Realism but gives a big nod towards Abstraction. The hues in each scene are outlined in ink to purposefully acknowledge of how simple individual colours contribute to the painting as a whole. Little “bubbles” of thankfulness can be found in each painting, and these “bubbles” rise upward; hence, the name. It’s as though the mountains and the hills are thankful for the warm sunshine, thirst-quenching rain and nutritious soil, and so, they burst into song.”
