More supportive living beds coming to Drayton and Ponoka

Seniors in Drayton Valley and Ponoka in need of supportive living accommodations will soon be resting much more comfortably.

This week, Alberta Health Services (AHS) announced that the Seasons Retirement Communities will be receiving 12 new Support Living Level 4 (SL4) beds in Drayton, and 20 in Ponoka.

AHS explains that SL4 beds are for people with more complex medical needs, such as chronic disease management. They also offer assistance with daily activities, such as meal assistance, mechanical lift or two-person transfers, and medication assistance.

In a statement, Mark Smith, MLA for Drayton Valley-Devon, applauds the addition.

“This is a great benefit for Drayton Valley,” says Smith. “Residents can be confident that they, or their loved ones, will be provided a high level of supportive living care right here in the community.”

Adds Lacombe-Ponoka MLA Ron Orr: “Adding these new beds in Ponoka provides residents the opportunity to stay in the community they know and love, close to family, and get the care they need.”

The new beds are in addition to 16 SL4 beds that Seasons Retirement Communities added in Drayton last summer, with another 20 in Ponoka in the summer.

Lori Sparrow, AHS Senior Operating Officer, Seniors Health, Central Zone, also welcomes the new beds.

“Providing more Albertans the opportunity to age in place, in familiar surroundings near family and loved ones, is an important cornerstone of enhancing care in the community,” says Sparrow.

According to AHS, supportive living overall promotes residents’ independence and aging in place through the provision of services such as 24-hour monitoring, emergency response, security, meals, housekeeping and social-enrichment activities.
