Ponoka RCMP seeking public assistance with stolen vehicle located burned

Nov 11, 2021 | 4:01 PM

Ponoka RCMP are asking for the public’s help with any relevant video footage/recordings related to the theft of vehicle and its subsequent arson last week.

On Tuesday, Nov. 2, at approximately 11:41 a.m., Ponoka RCMP received a report of a stolen vehicle around the area of 46 Avenue in Ponoka.

On Wednesday, Nov. 3, at approximately 09:06 a.m., Ponoka RCMP received a report of a car on fire north of 46 street on the central east side of the town of Ponoka.

Ponoka RCMP attended the scene, along with the Ponoka Fire Department who were able to extinguish the fire. Because of the quick response, Mounties say the fire was extinguished quickly enough that it remained identifiable and was confirmed as the stolen vehicle from the day before.

Police note, the Ponoka Fire Department was able to determine the vehicle fire to be arson. RCMP say two independent witnesses observed a male walking away from the vehicle just prior to it igniting.

The male suspect has been described as having a light complexion, approximately 5’ 8” tall and was last seen wearing a dark colored hoodie, dark colored pants and dark shoes.

Mounties say the behaviour of the male suspect was described as acting very suspiciously– continually looking back at the vehicle before it was on fire.

Ponoka RCMP are asking the public for any relevant video footage/recordings related to the theft of the vehicle on Nov. 2, or the vehicle arson that may have been captured between the hours of 8:30 a.m.- 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3.

Those who do are asked to contact Ponoka RCMP at 403-783-4472. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com or by using the “P3 Tips” app available through the Apple App or Google Play Store.

“Together with the members of the community we serve, Ponoka RCMP remains focused and committed to reducing crimes against persons and their property,” says Sgt. Erin St-Cyr, Operations NCO Ponoka RCMP.
