COVID numbers begin slow decline, but Alberta adds 26 more deaths

Starting with provincial numbers today, where sadly, 26 more people have been reported dead in the last day due to COVID-19.

That brings the provincial death toll is now 2,804, up 107 in the last week alone.

The active caseload is now 18,912, down 544 after a drop of 1,218 yesterday. This with the province adding 1,263 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. The province also did 15,400 more tests in the last day, with a seven-day positivity rate of 9.89 per cent.

Hospitalizations

There are 1,083 people in hospital, down 11 in one day, and ICU admissions are down five to 247.

Of the 836 not in ICU, 533 are unvaccinated, 75 have had one dose, and 228 have had two doses.

Of the 247 in ICU, 209 are unvaccinated, 11 have had one dose, and 27 have had two doses.

CENTRAL ZONE

Red Deer now has 825 active cases of COVID-19, up seven from Tuesday.

Red Deer hit a new peak of 915 on Sept. 27, topping its previous high of 911 on May 8 at the height of the third wave.

Meantime, recoveries in Red Deer rose 58 to 7,450 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose by 65 in the last day to 8,342.

The city’s rate of active cases per 100,000 people is 775.4, compared to the city of Calgary at 233.9 and the city of Edmonton at 256.8.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 is 67, with none reported today.

The Central Zone as a whole has 3,955 active cases as of Wednesday, down 89 in the last day.

There are 214 hospitalizations, up eight, and 21 people are receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, up two.

Central Zone has recorded 287 deaths, including seven in the last day.

The zone’s one-day positivity rate for Oct. 5 is 16.78 per cent, with 1,818 tests done.

To contrast, Calgary Zone’s positivity rate for Oct. 5 was 5.40 per cent, Edmonton Zone was 5.60 per cent, North Zone was 19.64 per cent (lowest immunization rate), and South Zone was 13.74 per cent.

VACCINATIONS

Alberta has delivered 6,155,243 vaccine doses as of Oct. 5, up 12,788 in the last day.

84.6 per cent of Alberta’s eligible 12+ population has received at least one dose (72.0% total population), and 75.2 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated (64.0% total population).

In Red Deer, 70,183 (76.6% of eligible & 66.0% *total population) people have received at least one dose. Meanwhile, 61,823 (67.4%/58.1%) are fully vaccinated with two doses. (*Government of Alberta uses a population of 106,395 for Red Deer; of those 91,672 are eligible)
