Increasing Absenteeism

COVID related illnesses increasing absenteeism at Clearview Public Schools

Sep 20, 2021 | 5:23 PM

Over half or 60 per cent of Clearview Public Schools regular schools are now above the 10 per cent metric identified by the Alberta government for reporting to Alberta Health Services (AHS).

District officials say Byemoor School experienced over 10 per cent of students and staff being away due to medical illness on Sept. 17.

As a result, the following schools are now experiencing over 10 per cent of students and staff being away due to medical illness.

  • Big Valley School (partial transition to at-home learning: Gr.1-9)
  • Byemoor School
  • Donalda School (partial transition to at-home learning: Gr.1-9)
  • Erskine School
  • Gus Wetter School
  • Stettler Elementary School

District officials say individuals have reported to most schools listed they have tested positive for COVID-19. Following protocols from AHS, however, Clearview staff will not be identifying or contacting close contacts.

Officials say schools continue to remain open, with staff working closely with AHS to ensure necessary measures are in place to protect all students and staff.

Current safety protocols include enhanced cleaning and disinfecting, daytime custodial staff, staff masking in common areas, as well as hand washing and sanitizing.

“We remind all families to continue to closely monitor your children for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19,” reads a District press release on Monday.

The Alberta Health daily checklist can be found here.

Families are reminded to complete the checklist each day, whether children are attending school and/or getting on the school bus or not. Also, if you/your child has any of the symptoms of illness listed on the Alberta Health daily checklist, you’re asked to fill out the online Alberta Health Services COVID-19 self-assessment or call Health Link at 811 and stay home/keep your child at home.

“We are in this together and will be sending updates to families as information becomes available,” the statement continues. “We want to thank families for following the protocols and keeping students home when experiencing medical illness and/or symptoms.”
