Alberta adds 24 COVID-linked deaths, including three in Red Deer

With a press conference featuring the premier and chief medical officer of health looming at 6 p.m., Alberta is reporting 1,609 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours.

The active caseload is now 18,421, up 154 after a small one-day dip yesterday.

There are 877 people in hospital, up 55 in one day, and ICU admissions are up six to 218.

Of the 659 not in ICU, 436 are unvaccinated, 44 have had one dose, and 179 have two doses.

Of the 218 in ICU, 194 are unvaccinated, six have had one dose, and 18 have had two doses.

Sadly, 24 new deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported in the past day, meaning the provincial death toll is now 2,495.

RED DEER & CENTRAL ZONE

Red Deer now has 546 active cases of COVID-19, down 29 from Tuesday. This marks two straight days of decreases in the city’s active case count.

Recoveries rose 37 to 6,312 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose by 13 in the last day to 6,906.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 is now 48, with three deaths in the last day. Including Red Deer, Central Zone recorded six new deaths in the last day for a total of 201. (AHS does not specify each death by municipality)

The Central Zone as a whole has 2,620 active cases as of Wednesday, down 79 in one day, again, the second consecutive day with a drop.

There are, however, 141 hospitalizations, up seven, and 21 people are receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, the same as yesterday.

The zone’s one-day positivity rate for Sept. 14 is 10.36 per cent, the lowest since Aug. 14, with 1,371 tests done.

To contrast, Calgary Zone’s positivity rate for Sept. 14 was 8.06 per cent, Edmonton Zone was 9.79, North Zone was 22.62 (lowest immunization rate), and South Zone was 15.27.

VACCINATIONS

Alberta has delivered 5,674,732 vaccine doses as of Sept. 14, up 8.776 in the last day.

79.5 per cent of Alberta’s eligible 12+ population has received at least one dose (67.6% total population), and 71.4 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated (60.7% total population).

In Red Deer, 64,741 (70.6% of eligible & 60.8% *total population) people have received at least one dose, up 116. Meanwhile, 58,551 (63.9%/55.0%) are fully vaccinated with two doses, up 73. (*Government of Alberta uses a population of 106,395 for Red Deer; of those 91,672 are eligible)
