Red Deer with 478 active cases of COVID-19

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Red Deer has increased by 85 since Friday, bringing the total number of active cases in the city now to 478.

Recoveries have increased by 74 during those same four days, bringing total recoveries in Red Deer to 6,050 while the total number of coronavirus cases identified in Red Deer since the start of the pandemic is 6,572.

Total deaths in Red Deer attributed to the virus remains at 44, with the last one reported Sept. 1.

The Central Zone as a whole has 2,096 active cases as of Tuesday, up 384 from the numbers released Friday. There are 83 hospitalizations, up 11 from Friday, with 16 people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, up three from Friday.

To this point, 186 deaths have been attributed to COVID-19 in the Central Zone, an increase of three from Friday.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Across Alberta, another 4,903 new cases of COVID-19 were announced on Tuesday (1,330 Sept. 3, 1,450 Sept. 4, 820 Sept. 5, & 1,303 Sept. 6), bringing the total number of active cases across the province to 15,486 – up 1,991 from Friday.

With 41,217 tests conducted over the past four days, the test positivity rate is roughly 11.9 per cent.

Of the active cases, 9,741 are variants of concern, or 62.9 per cent of all active cases.

There are 602 Albertans currently in hospital with COVID-19, up 87 from Friday, with 137 of those patients in ICU, up 19 from Friday.

There have been 17 additional deaths reported to Alberta Health since Sept. 2, bringing the virus’ death toll in our province to 2,407.

There are currently 4,634 active cases of COVID-19 in the Edmonton zone, 4,187 in the Calgary zone, 2,948 in the North zone, 1,567 in the South zone, and 54 additional cases in unconfirmed locations.

VACCINATIONS

Alberta has now administered 5,611,168 doses of COVID-19 vaccine as of Sept. 6.

As a result, 78.6 per cent of Albertans aged 12+ now have at least one dose (66.9% total population), while 70.6 per cent of Albertans aged 12+ are now fully vaccinated (60.0% total population).

As of Sept. 6, 69.5 per cent of eligible Red Deerians have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, which represents 59.9 per cent of the city’s total population.

63.0 per cent of eligible Red Deerians are now fully vaccinated with two doses, which represents 54.3 per cent of the city’s total population.
