Red Deer with 326 active COVID-19 cases

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Red Deer continues to rise.

On Monday, 74 new cases were reported in the city over the past three days, bringing the total number of active cases in Red Deer to 326. That’s an average of nearly 25 new cases per day since Friday.

Recoveries are now at 5,888 – up 30 over the past three days. The number of coronavirus cases identified in Red Deer since the start of the pandemic is now 6,257 – an increase of 104 since Friday.

Red Deer’s death toll from the virus remains at 43, with the last one reported July 6.

The Central Zone as a whole has 1,304 active cases as of Monday, up 279 over the past three days. There are 43 hospitalizations, up six from Friday, with 12 people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, up five from Friday.

The Central Zone has had 181 deaths linked to COVID-19 to this point, up one in the last three days.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Across Alberta, another 3,056 new cases of COVID-19 were announced on Monday (1,231 Aug. 27, 960 Aug. 28, 865 Aug. 29), bringing the total number of active cases across the province now to 11,426 – up 1,771 from Friday.

With 29,269 tests conducted over the past three days, the test positivity rate is roughly 10.4 per cent.

Of the active cases, 7,855 are variants of concern, or 68.7 per cent of all active cases.

There are 401 Albertans currently in hospital with COVID-19, up 65 from Friday, with 98 of those patients in ICU, up 24 from Friday.

According to Dr. Deena Hinshaw, of the 303 non-ICU patients, 79.6 per cent are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated. While of the 98 patients in ICU, 94.2 per cent are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.

There have been 7 additional deaths reported to Alberta Health since August 26.

There are currently 3,571 active cases of COVID-19 in the Edmonton zone, 3,193 in the Calgary zone, 2,111 in the North zone, 1,198 in the South zone, and 49 additional cases in unconfirmed locations.

VACCINATIONS

Alberta has now administered 5,551,932 doses of COVID-19 vaccine as of Aug. 29.

As a result, 77.9 per cent of Albertans aged 12+ now have at least one dose (66.3% total population), while 69.7 per cent of Albertans aged 12+ are now fully vaccinated (59.3% total population).

As of Aug. 29, 68.7 per cent of eligible Red Deerians have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, which represents 59.2 per cent of the city’s total population.

62.0 per cent of eligible Red Deerians are now fully vaccinated with two doses, which represents 53.4 per cent of the city’s total population.
