Due to public interest generated by the recent shooting in Red Deer County that left one person dead, Blackfalds RCMP has released additional information about the case to provide more context.

On July 30, at 9 p.m., Blackfalds RCMP were investigating a report of a suspicious male wandering around a property near Blackfalds. The male suspect was apparently banging on the side of the house and scaring the occupants inside, police say.

Police located the man who claimed he was looking for the former owner of the property. After speaking with everyone involved, the man is said to have driven back to Red Deer and warned to stay away from the property or face criminal charges.

The following day, July 31, shortly after 5 a.m., Blackfalds RCMP were dispatched again to the same address, where the same male had returned to the scene. He was allegedly banging on bedroom windows and trying to gain entry through a door.

He was subsequently arrested for mischief and released from police custody in Red Deer on conditions and a court appearance on Sept. 17, 2021.

On Aug. 2 is when the shooting occurred, shortly after 3 p.m. and at the same location.

Upon arrival, officers found the homeowner suffering from injuries, while the suspect was deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.
