Red Deer sees rise in active COVID case count

Red Deer’s active COVID-19 case count has nearly doubled in the last four days.

According to the latest figures provided by provincial health officials on Tuesday, Red Deer now has 31 active cases of COVID-19, up from 16 reported on Friday.

Recoveries total 5,752 – up two from Friday, while the number of coronavirus cases identified in the city since the start of the pandemic numbers 5,826 – an increase of 17 from Friday.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains at 43.

The Central Zone as a whole has 133 active cases as of Tuesday, an increase of 48 from Friday. There are six hospitalizations, up two, with one person receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, up one from Friday. The Central Zone has had 172 deaths linked to COVID-19, with none reported today.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Across Alberta, another 743 cases of COVID-19 were announced over the past four days for an average of nearly 186 per day (126 on August 2, 147 on August 1, 230 on July 31, 240 on July 30). That brings the total number of active cases in the province now to 2,176.

With 21,599 tests conducted over those same four days, the test positivity rate is roughly three per cent.

Active variant cases total 978 or 45 per cent of all active cases.

There are 90 Albertans currently in hospital with COVID-19, the same as reported last Friday, while 23 of those patients are in ICU, up four from Friday.

No new deaths were reported on Tuesday.

Currently, there are 1,234 active cases of COVID-19 in the Calgary Zone, 402 in the Edmonton Zone, 210 in the South Zone, 189 in the North Zone, and eight additional cases in unconfirmed locations.

5,331,823 doses of COVID vaccine have been administered in Alberta as of August 2.

That equates to 76 per cent of Albertans aged 12+ with at least one dose and 65.8 per cent of Albertans 12+ being fully vaccinated with two doses.
