65% of eligible Albertans fully vaccinated, 57.8% of Red Deerians

Editor’s note: Friday’s COVID-19 data from Alberta Health was shared by the province much later than the usual 3:30 p.m.

Alberta Health says, as of July 29, 65 per cent of eligible Albertans are now fully vaccinated.

That equates to 55.3 per cent of the entire population, and 5,294,361 total doses administered.

Meantime, 75.8 per cent of eligible Albertans (64.5% of entire population) have received at least one dose.

61,118 (66.7% of eligible and 57.4% of all) Red Deerians have now received at least one dose, up 73. Of those, 52,944 (57.8/49.8%) are fully immunized with two doses, up 268.

Premier Jason Kenney said on Friday that Alberta’s rate for fully vaccinated people remains above the national average, and is also higher than the U.S., France and Germany, among others.

Alberta sits near the bottom, however, among all provinces and territories in terms of people with just one dose.

“Vaccines are the most effective way to get past the pandemic. They’re safe and highly effective,” says Kenney. “This is another important milestone, but we will keep pushing for more and more Albertans to get the vaccine. If you haven’t gotten both doses, now is the time.”

LOCAL NUMBERS

Red Deer now sits at 16 active cases of COVID-19, up one Thursday.

The city’s total number of recorded cases is up three to 5,809, while recoveries are up three to 5,750.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 43, with the last one reported July 6.

The Central Zone as a whole has 85 active cases as of Friday, up five from Thursday. There are four hospitalizations, down one, with zero people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, the same as yesterday. The Central Zone has had 172 deaths linked to COVID-19, with none reported today.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Across Alberta, another 187 cases of COVID-19 were announced Friday out of 8,285 tests. That makes for a seven-day positivity rate of 2.41 per cent.

Active cases across the province are up 135 to 1,655.

There are 90 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, up one, including 19 in intensive care, down one.

Three new deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported in the past day, making the provincial total now 2,328.
