Active cases continue rise, Dr. Hinshaw urges vaccines for young people

Red Deer is up one to 13 active cases of COVID-19 as of Tuesday, according to the latest numbers from the province.

The city added three new cases and two recoveries in the last 24 hours.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 43, with the last one reported July 6.

The Central Zone as a whole has 63 active cases as of Tuesday, up 10. There are four hospitalizations, and zero people in ICU at Red Deer Regional Hospital, each the same as yesterday. The Central Zone has had 172 deaths linked to COVID-19, with one reported today.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Across Alberta, another 134 new cases of COVID-19 were announced Tuesday out of 5,428 test results for a seven day positivity rate of 1.99 per cent, up 0.19 in the last day, and 1.11 over the last week.

Active cases across the province are up 90 to 1,173.

There are 82 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, down one, including 21 in intensive care, the same as Monday.

Sadly, three new deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported in the past day bringing the province’s total to 2,325.

Of Alberta’s 12+ population, 75.5 per cent has received at least one dose (64.2% total population), while 63.9 per cent of the 12+ population is now fully vaccinated (54.3% total population). A total of 5,240,925 doses have been administered, up 19,550 in the last day.

In Red Deer, 60,920 (66.5% eligible/57.3% total) people have received at least one dose, up 65 over the last day. Meanwhile, 52,254 residents (57.0%/49.1%) are fully vaccinated, up 276.
