Record July 1 temperatures set in parts of central Alberta

Some parts of central Alberta saw record temperatures broken on Canada Day.

According to meteorologists with Environment and Climate Change Canada, new record temperatures for July 1 were set in Breton, Nordegg, Rocky Mountain House, Stettler, and Sundre.

In Breton, a new record of 35.0 was set for July 1, beating the old record of 28.3 set in 1942.

In Nordegg, a new record high of 35.6 was set for July 1, surpassing the previous record of 31.7 set in 1924.

In Rocky Mountain House, the community reached a high of 34.9 degrees Celsius on July 1, breaking the former record of 30.6 set in 1942.

In Stettler, the old record of 29.0 set in 1977 was broken when the town reached a new record high of 36.2 for July 1.

In Sundre, a new record of 35.2 was set for July 1, breaking the previous record of 28.2 set in 2013.

The all-time record for Red Deer, 37.2 degrees set in 1906 and matched in 1924 and 1937, is not reported to have been broken.
