Red Deer rental rates among lowest in Canada

Red Deer continues to offer its residents some of the most affordable rental properties in Canada.

According to the latest National Rent Report by Rentals.ca and Bullpen Research and Consulting, Red Deer placed 35th on the list of 35 Canadian cities highlighted in the report.

The average rent for a one-bedroom unit in Red Deer last month was $881, down 8.7 per cent from April and 1.3 per cent from May of last year.

A two-bedroom unit rented for an average of $1,052 – down 1.9 per cent from April, but up 13 per cent from May, 2020.

Elsewhere in Alberta, Calgary placed 27th on the list, with an average rent of $1,216 per month for a one-bedroom unit and $1,530 per month for a two-bedroom residence.

Fort McMurray placed 29th on the list with an average rent of $1,062 per month for a one-bedroom unit and $1,253 for a two-bedroom.

Edmonton placed 30th on the list, with an average rent of $992 per month for a one-bedroom place and $1,215 per month for a two-bedroom unit.

The most expensive rental rates in Canada still belong to Vancouver. The average rent for a one-bedroom unit in the west coast city was $1,981 per month in May, while a two-bedroom residence had an average rent of $2,760.

The average rent for all Canadian properties listed on Rentals.ca in May was $1,708 per month – a year-over-year decline of 5.8 per cent.
