Alberta surpasses 20% of eligible people fully vaccinated

Red Deer’s active COVID-19 case count has dropped by four to 115 on Sunday.

Recoveries in Red Deer climbed to 5,565 while the number of COVID-19 cases identified in the city since the start of the pandemic is now 5,720, an increase of five in the last 24 hours.

The number of deaths in Red Deer remains 40.

According to the province’s interactive vaccination map, 56,424 Red Deer residents have received at least one dose of vaccine, up 160 in the past day. Of those, 20,973 people are fully vaccinated, up 1,145.

The Central Zone has 374 active cases as of Sunday, a drop of seven. There are 23 hospitalizations, down four, and four people receiving intensive care for COVID-19 at Red Deer Regional Hospital, down one. The zone has had 162 deaths, with one reported today.

Provincially, 165 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified, bringing the active caseload to 3,180, down 67 from Saturday. There have been 230,463 confirmed cases since the pandemic began.

With 5,799 tests conducted over the past 24 hours, the province’s one-day positivity rate is ~2.8 per cent in the past day, lower than the current weekly average of 3.48 per cent.

There are 272 Albertans currently in hospital with COVID-19, down 18 from Saturday, while 75 of those patients are in ICU, up one.

One more death is being reported, bringing the virus’ death toll in our province to 2,270. The latest COVID fatalities include:

· Date of death: 6/11/2021. A male in his 60s in the Central zone. The case included comorbidities.

As of June 12, 3,384,026 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta. That equates to 68.7 per cent of the eligible population (ages 12+) with at least one dose, while 20.2 per cent of the eligible population is fully vaccinated.
