Red Deer with 169 active COVID cases

Red Deer is up slightly to 169 active cases of COVID-19 as of Wednesday, according to the latest numbers from the province. That’s three more than Tuesday’s total of 166.

Recoveries are up 14 to 5,487 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose 17to 5,696.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 40.

55,519 Red Deerians have been immunized with at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine through Monday, including 16,501 fully vaccinated with two doses.

The Central Zone as a whole has 574 active cases as of Wednesday and 29 hospitalizations, including six receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital. The Central Zone has had 160 deaths linked to COVID-19.

Across Alberta another 329 cases of COVID-19 were announced Monday out of 8,545 test results for a positivity rate of just under four per cent.

Active cases across the province are down to 4,204, a one-day decrease of 227.

There are 329 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, down seven, including 83 in intensive care, down two.

Five new deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported in the past day to bring the province’s total to 2,256.

As of June 8, 3,157,862doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta. Over two-thirds (67.2%) percent of the province’s eligible population aged 12 has received at least one dose, and 15.7 per cent of eligible Albertans (598,139) are now fully vaccinated with two doses.
