Red Deer down to 634 active COVID cases

The city of Red Deer sits with 634 active cases of COVID-19 as of Tuesday.

That’s down 21 from Monday and about 30 per cent from the May 8 record high of 911.

Recoveries are listed at 4,673 with the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer as of Tuesday listed at 5,345.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 38.

The Central Zone has 2,054 active cases as of Tuesday, down 129. There are 68 hospitalizations, p four, including 13 people receiving intensive care for COVID-19 at Red Deer Regional Hospital, up one from Monday. The zone has now had 149 deaths linked to the virus.

Province-wide, Alberta reported another 877 cases on Tuesday out of 8,081 test results for a positivity rate of 10.8 per cent.

There are 20,013 active cases in the province, down 1,275 from Monday.

The number of Albertans hospitalized due to COVID-19 stands at 691, up 13, including 187 in intensive care, down one.

Four additional deaths linked to the virus were reported over the past 24 hours to bring the province’s total to 2,152. The latest reported deaths include:

• May 11. A man in his 50s in Central Zone.

• May 16. A man in his 50s in North Zone.

• May 16. A man in his 60s in North Zone.

• May 17. A woman in her 70s in South Zone.

All four cases included comorbidities.

There were 168 new variant cases of concern identified over the past 24 hours. Variants now make up 23.3 per cent (4,681) of Alberta’s active cases.

Alberta has delivered 2,217,446 doses of vaccine as of May 16, with 329,613 Albertans now fully immunized with two doses. More than half of Albertans over the age of 12 have now received at least one dose.
