Red Deer down to 802 active COVID cases

The downward trend when it comes to Red Deer’s active COVID-19 case count continues.

Friday’s numbers from the province show the city with 802 active cases. That’s down from 835 on Thursday and 109 (12%) from last Saturday’s record tally of 911.

Recoveries are up 70 to 4,352 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose 77 to 5,192.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 38.

Province-wide, Alberta reported another 1,433 cases of COVID-19 Friday out of 15,029 for a positivity rate of 9.5 per cent.

Active cases sit at 23,873, down 713 from Thursday, while recoveries are up 2,141 to 190,616.

There are 713 Albertans in hospital because of the virus, down nine, including 177 in intensive care, same as Thursday.

Five additional deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported over the past 24 hours to bring Alberta’s total to 2,137.

There were 399 new variant cases of concern identified over the past 24 hours. Variants now make up 26.7 per cent (6,389) of Alberta’s active cases.

Alberta has delivered 2,086,589 doses of vaccine as of Thursday, with 325,409 Albertans now fully immunized with two doses. The province a new daily record high Thursday with 63,953 vaccine doses administered.

The Central Zone has 2,500 active cases as of Friday, a decrease of 147. There are 68 hospitalizations, same as Thursday, and 10 people are now receiving intensive care for COVID-19 at Red Deer Regional Hospital. The zone has had 147 deaths linked to the virus, including three reported in the past day – man in his 70s who passed away May 12, a man in his 60s who died May 13, and a man in his 80s who died back on April 20.
