A federal prison in Alberta has called in the Canadian Red Cross to help deal with a major COVID-19 outbreak.

The Correctional Service Canada says on Tuesday there were 63 positive inmate cases at Drumheller Institution and 20 positive staff cases.

It says contact tracing and mass testing is underway for staff and offenders.

To help prevent more infections all visits have been cancelled, more cleaning is being done and routines at the prison have been changed to limit close contacts.
