Eagle Builders Centre on track for late summer completion

The new Eagles Builders Centre in Blackfalds is on budget and on schedule to be ready for hockey by Sept. 1, 2021.

As seen in images shared recently by the Blackfalds Bulldogs Jr. A hockey club, whose home the arena will be, it has taken shape quite drastically over the last few months.

Craig Haan, director at Eagle Builders, which was one of the project’s partners before naming rights were announced, says the excitement around its completion is palpable.

“I drove my wife and kids through the arena site last week. The kids opened the windows and said ‘This is awesome, and this is for Blackfalds?’ It’s pretty cool,” Haan says. “Delnor Construction has done a good job and so have all the trades. We’re going to be proud to have our name on the building for a number of years.”

The pandemic did cause a minor delay in construction leading up to the holidays, says Sean Barnes, Director of Community Services with the Town of Blackfalds. He says, however, that work was made up since then and it is fully back on its original schedule.

The multiplex’s expansion is worth $24.6 million, with $1 million contributed by the AJHL’s Bulldogs. Another million is being raised by a grassroots volunteer organization called the Dual Ice Development Society.

In addition to the arena, the project includes a $6.6 million library.

“You can see the massive roof structure and the stadium bowl seating,” Haan adds, saying the actual seats will be installed sometime in the early summer. “It’s just going to be awesome for this town and for central Alberta.”
