Red Deer with 257 active cases as city sees eighth death from COVID-19

Alberta reported another 1,123 cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday.

That’s out of 16,127 test results over the past 24 hours for a positivity rate of seven per cent.

There are now 13,450 active cases in Alberta, an increase of 39 from Tuesday.

The province reported another 1,059 recoveries on Wednesday to bring Alberta’s total to 92,858.

The number of Albertans hospitalized due to COVID-19 has reached 911, a decrease of eight. That includes 141 people in intensive care, an increase of one.

Another 25 deaths from COVID-19 were reported Wednesday to bring Alberta’s total to 1,193.

In Red Deer, the number of active cases as of Tuesday sits at 257, up one from Tuesday. There have been 1,303 recoveries, an increase of 18, as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to the city rose by 20 to 1,568.

Sadly, Red Deer has recorded another death from COVID-19, a man in his 90s on Jan. 5, to bring the city’s total to eight.

Red Deer County has 62 active cases of COVID-19 as of Wednesday, an increase of two, while Sylvan Lake has 35, unchanged from Tuesday.

There are 35 active cases in Clearwater County (Rocky Mountain House), a decrease of three.

Lacombe County has 38 active cases, an increase of two, and the city of Lacombe has 43, also two more than Tuesday.

Ponoka County saw its active case count go from 475 on Tuesday to 457 on Wednesday, a decrease of 18.

Mountain View County has 35 active cases, up four, Olds has 39, up seven, and Kneehill County remains with 10. The County of Stettler also has nine active cases, a decrease of one.

The Central Zone as a whole has 1,418 active cases as of Wednesday and 97 hospitalizations, including 17 in intensive care, all at Red Deer Regional Hospital. There have been 49 deaths in the zone from COVID-19.
