NORDEGG – Four suspects were taken into custody late in the evening on Dec. 17, following a pursuit and a brief foot chase of two males.

At 9:46 p.m. Rocky Mountain House RCMP members encountered a stolen vehicle while on patrol. They attempted a traffic stop and the suspect vehicle rammed the police vehicle.

A pursuit was initiated and a tire deflation device was successfully deployed, causing the suspect vehicle to veer into the ditch.

One male and female were arrested from within the vehicle and two males fled on foot into the nearby woods. The Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Police Dog Services were engaged. After a successful track, the two males were located and arrested. One male suffered minor injuries as a result of his interaction with the police dog and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

A search of the vehicle led the RCMP to seize three unsecured, loaded rifles, which were located accessible to the occupants of the vehicle. One of the firearms is believed to be associated to an earlier incident.

Cruz Bigchild, 24, Dawson Whitford, 18, Dredain Whitford, 24, and Shay Joy Whitford, 22, are jointly charged with 25 criminal charges, including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Both Whitford and Whitford are facing a further charge of failing to comply with a condition of an undertaking/release order.

Bigchild is facing four further charges including possession of stolen property, and possession of a weapon while prohibited.

All four accused have been released and are scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 20 in Rocky Mountain House.
