Public alerting system test to take place Wednesday

UPDATE: Please note that Alberta has cancelled its test of Alert Ready as the province will be using emergency notifications to further inform residents of additional COVID-19 measures that in place.

A public test message will be sent by Canada’s public alerting system on Wednesday.

Albertans can expect to receive the message at 1:55 p.m. MST.

Alert Ready will send one test message over television, radio and compatible wireless devices.

Alert Ready delivers critical and potentially life-saving alerts to Canadians, including but not limited to tornadoes, flooding, fires and AMBER alerts. As of Nov. 23, Alert Ready has enabled government authorities to deliver more than 170 emergency alerts since Jan 1, 2020.

Regular testing of Alert Ready provides an opportunity to validate and improve the performance and reliability of the system and to ensure it operates as it is intended in the event of an imminent life-threatening situation.

Given the importance of warning Canadians of an imminent threat to life, Canadians do not have the option to opt-out of this essential life-saving service.
