Red Deer with 126 active COVID-19 cases, Alberta sets another daily record

For the fourth day in a row Alberta has set a daily record with 1,584 new cases of COVID-19 reported on Sunday.

That’s out of 19,472 tests completed over the past 24 hours – a positivity rate of 8.1 per cent.

Alberta recorded more new cases on Sunday than both Quebec (1,154) and Ontario (1,534).

The province currently has 12,195 active cases, up 921 from 11,274 on Saturday.

There are 319 Albertans in hospital because of the virus, one less than Saturday, including 60 in ICU, an increase of four.

A positive from Sunday’s report was that no new deaths were reported, for the first time since Oct. 17, leaving Alberta’s total at 471.

Red Deer has 126 active cases of COVID-19 as of Sunday, an increase of 14.

There have been 270 recovered cases, an increase of seven, as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to the city rose by 21 to 396.

Red Deer County is up to 37active cases, eight more than Saturday, while Sylvan Lake added five more for a total of 18.

Lacombe County has 26 active cases, an increase of two, while the city of Lacombe has 14, an increase of three.

Ponoka County is up to 195 active cases, an increase of 35 over the last 24 hours.

Rocky Mountain House (Clearwater County) is up to nine active cases

Mountain View County has 11 active cases, Olds now has 10 and Kneehill County sits with 13.

Starland County has three active cases and the County of Stettler now has two.

The Central zone as a whole now has 714 active cases and 18 hospitalizations, including one in intensive care.

Red Deer (118.9 cases per 100,000 people), Red Deer County (112.1), Sylvan Lake (107), Lacombe (75.1), Lacombe County (119.4), Ponoka County (709.9) and the town of Olds (80.3) are all under ‘enhanced’ status according to the province’s status map, meaning additional public health measures are in place.

There are currently seven COVID-19 outbreaks in the Central zone, including five in the Red Deer area: Avenue Living Communities office in Red Deer, Drumheller Institution, Olymel in Red Deer, a private gathering in Ponoka, and at Pure Fitness in Red Deer.

Canada’s top public health officer, Dr. Theresa Tam, on Sunday urged people to limit gatherings and only go out for essentials ahead of the holiday season.

Tam said Canada is seeing “rapid epidemic growth,” as the country has now recorded 330,492 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.
