Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Red Deer and area

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Red Deer and much of central Alberta.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Officials say severe thunderstorms will develop in the area this afternoon and evening.

The threat of the thunderstorms in central and eastern Alberta will continue into the overnight hours. Some severe thunderstorms may produce tornadoes.
