Active COVID-19 cases grow by 515 with 991 more reported Sunday

Alberta is reporting another 991 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday.

This after the province recorded a record one-day high of 1,026 cases yesterday.

The number of active cases in the province rose by 515 to 9,618.

Alberta recorded six more deaths from COVID-19 bringing the total to 407. Five were in Edmonton Zone and one was in Calgary Zone.

There are 262 people in hospital, an increase of six, including 58 in intensive care, up four.

“As I’ve said before, we are at a critical point, and we all have a say in how we’ll fare in the weeks and months ahead,” Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s chief medical officer of health, tweeted Sunday. “The targeted measures introduced last week include a number of actions that you and your household can take to help limit the spread of COVID-19.”

Updated local numbers are expected on Monday.

As of Friday, Red Deer had 94 active cases of COVID-19.

As of Saturday, according to Canada.ca, Alberta has the second highest rate of active cases per 100,000 people at 220. The highest is Manitoba at 468 and the national average is 128.
