Joint Public Hearing for Sylvan Lake IDP coming up soon

Nov 9, 2020 | 2:59 PM

Following a postponement because of COVID-19, a Joint Public Hearing has been rescheduled for the Sylvan Lake Intermunicipal Development Plan.

Officials say the November 21 hearing will be the final opportunity for the public to share their perspective on the plan with all eight councils for the municipalities involved (Town of Sylvan Lake, Lacombe County, Red Deer County, and the summer villages of Norglenwold, Jarvis Bay, Birchcliff, Half Moon Bay and Sunbreaker Cove).

The hearing on Nov. 21 gets underway starting at 1:30 p.m. and will be hosted online and in-person to manage COVID-19 requirements.

Registration for in-person participation is required. Each Municipal Council will be meeting in their respective Council Chambers (Town of Sylvan Lake, Lacombe County and Red Deer County) and the Summer Villages will be meeting at the NexSource Centre in Sylvan Lake (4823 49 Ave).

Written comments must be received by one of the municipal partners by November 20.

For those attending in-person, masking is recommended if you cannot maintain physical distancing. If you are displaying symptoms, join in online or submit written comments.

Officials say no changes have been made to the draft Sylvan Lake Intermunicipal Development Plan since the municipal partners approved their respective first readings in early 2020. The draft Sylvan Lake Intermunicipal Development Plan is available here.

Public feedback received in the fall of 2019 prompted some revisions to the draft plan that included:

• removing the 30 metre development setback for vacant parcels and replacing it with requirements for a Development Design Plan that mitigates watershed impacts;

• clarifying the residential land use to be consistent with the existing Sylvan Lake / Red Deer County Intermunicipal Development Plan; and

• adding prioritization for the Lake Access Management Plan to the implementation plan, and potential inclusion of boat fuelling in the management plan.
