2020 Cultural Showcase taking similar route as Market on Main

This year’s Cultural Showcase in Rocky Mountain House will be held in front the Âsokêwin Friendship Centre.

Executive Director Kirby Bigchild noted that this year’s event will run similar to how Market on Main was held.

“It’s important to have a community event, we still need those social connections, it’s good to promote our community and to promote each other,” Bigchild mentioned.

He also noted that the Town’s Economic Development Officer Jeff Hartling, who was instrumental in organizing Market on Main, will be assisting in ensuring a smooth event.

The event will held on 52 Street in front of the Âsokêwin Friendship Centre, closing down the street while having a separate entrance and exit.

The Town of Rocky and Clearwater County have assisted financially and have both along with the FCSS provided staff to help organize and plan the upcoming event.

The Cultural Showcase will have four performers Kita No Taiko Japanese Drumming, Dallas Arcand World Champion Hoop Dancer, Krazy Creek Indigenous Drums and Dancers, and Local Metis Jiggers and Fiddler.

Those performances will be conducted every hour on stage in the Pioneer Centre parking lot.

Although there are fewer performers this year, the event being outside has allowed Bigchild to expand the size of the event and even add areas for local artisans to sell their wares in the Friendship Centre and inside the Pioneer Centre.

The artisans have been split into two separate buildings to help spread out the amount of people in one area.

A large tent is also intended to be set up to house the many culinary delights from around the globe.

There will be food from countries such as Eastern European, Korea, Thailand, East Indian, Netherlands, Trinidad, Philippines, and Indigenous.

The Cultural event will be held Saturday, Oct. 3 from 1-5 P.M. and will be absolutely free for anyone to attend.

Bigchild said the Cultural Showcase has always meant one thing, “Building friendships and lasting memories.”
