A 30-year-old man from Red Deer has been charged with several sex-related offences.

Red Deer RCMP say that after receiving a complaint from a concerned parent, an investigation determined that a man allegedly lured and committed those offences against a 15-year-old.

The specialized Red Deer RCMP Sex Crime Unit executed a search warrant and arrested the suspect on July 31.

Brandon Conlin is charged with counts of sexual interference, sexual assault, possession of child pornography, and luring a child.

Conlin remains in custody until his next court appearance on Sept. 14.

“The Red Deer RCMP encourages parents and guardians to discuss internet and cellphone safety with their children,” a release notes. “Parents can find information on how to keep their children safe at www.getcybersafe.gc.ca under ‘Protect Yourself.'”

The Red Deer Sex Crime Unit was created in July 2020 and works collaboratively with a number of local agencies to provide victim-focused service to survivors of sexual violence. More information about the unit is at reddeer.ca/rcmp.
