ROAR doing well thanks to community

As many organizations have struggled during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Rocky Organization for Animal Rescue (ROAR) has done well thanks to the kindness of others.

ROAR Office Manager Lori Gray noted that it was the fantastic community that supported them and the animals, even though they themselves were struggling.

Donations came in from individuals in the form of bottles, pet food, cat litter, and the occasional e-transfer.

She made specific mention to Evergreen Co-Op that donated their recycling to them which she explained had really helped to pay for the needed vet bills.

ROAR’s very own Animal Care Manager and Gray herself reduced their paid hours and came in on their own time to care for the facility and the animals.

From the beginning of the current health crisis in March the much needed volunteers were unable to go in and help as the shelter was closed to help prevent the spread.

Volunteers have been slowly been trickling back in as per appointments.

Gray brought up that during the pandemic, adoptions of pets have actually increased, but pointed out that they asked those that came in if things would change when they went back to work and if they would be surrendering the animals back at that point.

“We haven’t received any of them back and they are loving their animals very much.”

Those that wish to go in and visit the pets can still do so but to avoid crowding are only allowing people in by appointments through either their Facebook page or email.

Gray stated that they are still intending to grow and hoping to one day begin boarding pets for those in community wanting a safe space to leave their animals while they’re away.
