Charges laid in shooting near Rimbey

A 31-year-old Lacombe County man faces charges following a shooting incident this past weekend near Rimbey.

It was at 6:12 a.m. on Sunday when Rimbey RCMP responded to a request for assistance by EMS after a female witness called 911 about a shooting incident at a rural property west of town.

Police say the shooting occurred after a brief altercation escalated between two males.

“The victim was able to drive away from the location of the shooting and was later air-lifted to hospital suffering from non-life threatening injuries,” according to an RCMP media release.

The male suspect turned himself into police the following day. RCMP believe the shooting was an isolated incident.

Jade John Edward Slofstra of Lacombe County is charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon contrary to an order, and breach of a recognizance.

Slofstra remains in custody pending a hearing at Red Deer provincial court this morning (July 8).
