Local musicians and artists called upon for concert series and online arts fest

Jul 4, 2020 | 11:27 AM

The year 2020 will be considered a time of immense change, both for Canada and the world, and the Red Deer Arts Council is excited to launch a new project to build strong communities, improve mental well-being and celebrate arts and culture as a force for joy in a trying time.

With beautiful weather, travel restrictions and summertime screen fatigue, the Red Deer Arts Council is excited to plan small live community-based concerts around the city, working with community organizers, neighbourhood associations and block connectors to help neighbourhoods celebrate a united spirit.

The “In the Neighbourhood” Concert Series will feature local musicians performing curbside for the residents of several neighbourhoods within the city, allowing for physical distancing with residents seated on their private front lawns and neighbours on adjacent public green spaces. Dates, times and exact street locations will be communicated in the neighbourhood one day prior to the event in an effort to follow current provincial guidance on attendee limits. More general information will be shared publicly with the whole community.

Follow the concert series and get updates to find out if we’re coming to your neighbourhood through the Red Deer Arts Council’s website and social media platforms:

The Red Deer Arts Council is pleased to be able to support local performing artists through a grant provided by the City of Red Deer Culture Services. Meanwhile, the 2020 Online Arts Festival continues on our Social Media platforms throughout July, to celebrate visual, literary and performing artists in our community.

Red Deer Arts Council is excited to present the “In the Neighbourhood” Concert Series, which runs in July and August, 2020 in different communities around Red Deer, in cooperation with community organizers, neighbourhood associations and block connectors.

The deadline for submissions is July 9 at 5 p.m. Find more info HERE, call Suzanne at 403-348-2787, or email info@reddeerartscouncil.ca.

MEANTIME… the Red Deer Arts Council is also accepting submissions for its 2020 Online Arts Fest. The deadline is July 25.
