Activities this weekend for World Refugee Day
Central Alberta Refugee Effort (CARE) and Catholic Social Services (CSS), together known as the Immigrant Centre, will be commemorating World Refugee Day on June 20 with different activities to raise awareness and provide education about the experiences of refugees in Central Alberta.
Culture Chats livestreamed for the past three Wednesdays, hosted by Angie Chinguwo and Jan Underwood from CARE, and a pre-recorded interview hosted by Ahlam Olamy and Jamil Mohamed from CSS, will be shown on Saturday, June 20 on the CARE Facebook page and feature local refugees sharing their personal stories, challenges and successes.
For the month of June, the stories of four refugees who took part in the production of Journeys of Hope by CACHE Productions, are available on YouTube at the following link: https://thecacheproject.ca/journeys-of-hope/. Their present-day updates are available on the CARE Facebook page.
We will also be posting the Immigrant Centre Photo Project called #love4refugees on Facebook, featuring many former local refugees in a collage with photos and messages to encourage welcoming and inclusive communities globally.
