Jun 10, 2020 | 11:30 AM

A reported new case of COVID-19 in Red Deer has been confirmed false.

On Tuesday, management at Bower Place shopping centre circulated a letter saying there was a confirmed case of the novel coronavirus in someone who works at the mall.

“This has subsequently been retracted by the tenant as false and verified accordingly by the (Alberta) Health Authority,” Bower Place Marketing Manager Adwoa Obrenu-Yamoah told rdnewsNOW in an e-mail Wednesday afternoon.

Alberta Health Services had been with mall management to investigate the reported case.

“At this time, we have no lab confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Red Deer. If and when there are cases, robust contact tracing occurs to notify anyone who may have been in contact,” an AHS spokesperson said earlier on Wednesday.

“In every case, AHS will work to ensure the individual is isolated and that anyone who may have been exposed self-isolates and is tested. Anyone who is not contacted by AHS is not considered at risk,” McMillan said.

Red Deer has been without an active case of COVID-19 since May 31. As of Wednesday our city has seen 35 confirmed cases overall.
